Prince of Persia Film

Originally, Jerry Bruckheimer's The Prince of Persia was to be among the flotilla of summer blockbusters currently moored or en route to box offices around the nation this year. However, last August, the Mike Newell-directed tribute to Ubisoft's Middle Eastern hero was abruptly pushed back a year from its June 19, 2009 release to Memorial Day weekend 2010.

Even before the delay, information on the high-profile film had been limited, with one of the earliest looks being a candid on-set shot of star Jake Gyllenhaal--in Prince garb--walking with girlfriend Reese Witherspoon. Today, however, actual footage of the film has surfaced, courtesy of an ABC interview with Bruckheimer.

The interview, which has been reposted to popular video-sharing site YouTube, features Bruckheimer discussing The Prince of Persia, with action sequences from the film interspersed throughout. Notably, Bruckheimer spared no expense on extras, as Gyllenhaal is on several occasions shown doing battle with armed guards amid a sea of city dwellers.

The Prince of Persia will also star Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Three and Out), Ben Kingsley (Sexy Beast, BloodRayne), and Alfred Molina (Raiders of the Lost Ark, Spider-Man 2). As Dastan, Gyllenhaal will attempt to prevent a nefarious nobleman from obtaining the continuum-controlling Sands of Time. Arterton's character, the princess Tamina, will join him on his quest. The film's screenplay was co-written by Jordan Mechner, creator of the original 1989 Prince of Persia and its sequels.

Conclusions:



The story will be slightly different from what I've understand but it will still have the Sands of Time
The prince that you see in that youtube video doesn't look like the one from the first game but rather the one from the second game (same prince, different clothes)


Let's just hope the Film doesn't suck... I don't want this game ruined...

In the poll i voted for the second option only because it seems cool. Environment, the actors. It seems good at first sight.

I entered the second choice,
when game movies are in discussion it's never really a Great film.
i think the game that uses the character and environment and gameplay to engross the player,
Can sometimes make the film harder to make in terms of the director and producer.

max payne is a great example of this theory.

the games were great (and here's hoping that Max payne 3 will be too)
but the film was So so at best.

Well...By the way the movies are going it will be a s**tfest if you know what i mean...I dont know one good movie that aired this year...Oh wait gran torino! Best year for movies was 2007!IMO

I really enjoyed Crank 2 this year.

But thats only because i loved crank

i can say that im very curious about the movie, specially because the guy resembles the prince.
they have a good director and i think its going to turn out pretty good, even if it doesnt follow the game plot.
as long as it doesnt turn out like some game related movies that really s*cks *cof*dungeons&dragons*cof* i guess its fine. 2010 han.. i'll be waiting

I really hope it doesn't get to be another DB Evolution, Dragon Ball didn't deserve such a crime, and so doesn't the Prince.

Though for movies this year Wolverine Origins came out pretty well in my opinion, let's wait for the rest.

but yeah the wardrobe looks pretty cool, and the characters hair style.. details..

from what I've understand, the story is from the first game and if not... it's similar.
Prince trying to stop a guy from getting power with the sands of time... something like that...

@DX: I haven't seen Wolverine yet

but i wanted to see that scene.. where he puts the dagger in the "thingy" and then the sand... the people turn into zombies lol and the prince : no! dad! why? looool

I hope they don't use the dagger. I didn't like the idea when I played prince of persia. It's much more "natural" (if i can say so) to use a medallion (Prince of Persia 2)...

I'll tell you a secret that I'm not proud of... but I have my reasons... I have the 3 PS2 games of the franchise but I haven't finished any of those... why? I already had PS3 when I got them... I had (and still have) lots of games to play... Ps3 comes first... but when I have some more time, I'll be sure to finish the 3 games so i can fully understand the story line...

It's funny, the first one that I got was The Warrior Within (PoP2) and the only one from the trilogy that I haven't finished yet.

Well the flying part isn't that relevant in the game so they could hide it a little (since making the girl fly would probably suck...)

Well... naughtydog games always do that... characters never kiss, even if they're about to. Only in the end of the sequel...
Uncharted's love scenario is sooooooo similar to jak and daxter's... They're making something similar... so the girl that appears on uncharted 2 is going to create a love triangle and there will be fun
