For the first review here on team awesomeness I, one of the reviewers of this site, chose Ninja Gainden Sigma.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is a game that's restricted, not only, to mature people, due to it's extreme violent scenes, but also, to hardcore gamers. This is definitely one of the most hardest games on the market. You don't have to have just patience to complete the game, you need skills!

Ninja Gaiden Sigma has a poor story, and maybe that's what it's keeping the game from having a 9,5 out of 10. "Oh no, they have stolen the dragon sword, what should we do?" Ryu Hayabusa comes to the rescue and goes on pursuit of the legendary sword. He kills the bad guy and TADAN! All done. sorry for the spoilers dudes xD.
For not being a terrible story NGS gets a 5 out of 10 in the story category

THIS IS JUST THE TUTORIAL LEVEL N00B!

Overall, graphics are pretty good (While using HDMI cable). You have the 2 types of graphics as usual: Gameplay graphs and Movie graphs.
The Gameplay graphs are the best, so much contrast, so much light effects, blood flying every where... it's truly satisfying.
On the other hand, we have the movie graphics which really really s*ck compared with the gameplay's. The TV screen changes from 14:9 to 3:4 when this movies appear, you can notice a lot of pixels... it seems Tecmo just "copy past"ed the videos from the Xbox version. They didn't adjust nothing it's terrible, but since there isn't much of a story to tell this type of movies are small. just ignore them will'ya?
Graphics category gets a 8/10

There isn't much to say about the sound... cool music, fitting for a japanese-hardcore-fighting game; Voice acting is cool, seems natural although I can't understand japanese (i wished). The gameplay-related sounds are awesome! Slashing your foes was never so graceful and rewarding.
Sound: 9,5 out of 10

Now... for what it matters the most... Gameplay!
Being this a slash'em-up type of game the controls need to be responsive, you need to be free to do whatever you want. Slash! Guard! Evade attack! Counter-Attack! Every of this topics must be seriously respected in each slash'em-up game. And that is exactly what Tecmo did. But to have such power... your foes need to be strong otherwise the game would be easy... and no one wants that, right?
After beating the game you'll think that you're one of the best gamers! It's, once again, a great reward to finish the game. If you have the patience to continue playing, you'll try hard mode, and then you'll realize how pathetic you were when you started the game for the first time...
Gameplay: 9,5 / 10

There aren't much combos, but a lot of weapons that you can use as well as magic attacks (ninja style: ninpo)
So to be able to do the basics you'll need about 1 hour or less. Now you just have to train hard to beat the so called fiends!
Learning curve: less than 1 hours
Difficulty: Very Hard
Game duration: 10-15 hours

I think I've said it all... I'll edit the post if I have forgotten something or if you ask me some important detail about the game.

Since the game doesn't have much of a story you can just wait for the sequel (Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 will be on stores in the end of this year)

lol anyway PS2 is a legendary console: if you like slash'em up games like me you should (if you haven't yet) buy both god of war games, and after beating them on normal go play it on very hard mode. (It's something like ninja gaiden's normal mode xD)

This might be slightly offtopic but you said this game's gameplay is quite fluid. Are there any games you can recommend with similar gameplay?

I liked the similar games section, I've already finished both Gods of War, played both Genjis, and ordered both DMC4 and Wolverine that will probably arrive tomorow...the only thing missing will be Ninja Gaiden xD

I don't have a PS3 so I can only get Ninja Gaiden 2

you can have ninja gaiden balck... exclusive xbox title...

I hear it's even harder then Ninja Gaiden 2.....I'll get it if I can finish NG2 xD

if it helps... it's said to be easier than ninja gaiden sigma (PS3's version of ninja gaiden black)
